Coastal cities and the capital Nicosia may not have snow during Christmas but Cyprus it is surely a festive place to be with warm family traditions, special and interesting customs, lots of activities for everyone, unique events and delicious tastes.

As Christmas approaches the mad rush to buy presents, prepare food, send cards and be jolly can make anyone exhausted especially in the slower paced lifestyle that many seek in Cyprus. In Cyprus just like much of the world, Christmas has become more commercialized with shops well decorated, stocked and extending their shopping hours. All sorts of Christmas events, parties and religious functions fill the calendar in anticipation.

Christmas is always celebrated in Cyprus in a rather traditional way. It is, beyond doubt, a magic, precious and loving holiday for both children and grownups. A time when people rejoice the birth of boy Jesus, spend time with beloved ones, exchange gifts, sing carols and… eat!

There throughout the Christmas period the fair promises to entertain the young ones with all the amusing games as well as host food kiosks. Enjoy the fair every day from 4pm until 11pm and on weekends get in the Christmas spirit with choir singing, exhibitions, dance sows, concerts and for the little ones, theatre and a meeting with Santa.

Right around the corner you will find Christmas on the Sea at the Limassol Marina. On December 7th wonder around the festive square to relish the 12 meter high Christmas tree as it bursts into life during the lighting ceremony at 17:30! While the children enjoy workshops and meet Santa you can get your Christmas shopping done with some luxury gifts or enjoy a relaxing coffee break. And as the sun sets and the festivities peak you can savor in the excellent cuisine at one of the Marina’s restaurants by the sea.

Christmas Tree Lighting in Eleftheria Square

A stroll in the capital’s Old City will set the Christmas spirit. This year the newly completed ‘Eleftheria’ square will host a Christmas Village. Starting on November 30th until January 6th the Old City of Nicosia will dress up for Christmas and host funfairs, food huts and games for some festive cheer.

From the Square walk down the picturesque Ledras and Onasagorou Street to awaken the Christmas spirit. Discover both high street and boutique shops on Ledras Street for some Christmas shopping or find unique boutiques and gift shops on Onasagorou Street. Stay until sundown and enjoy the Old City as it lights up. Mellow down in a cosy coffee shop while watching the busy crowds walk up and down the streets or fill your bellies with some delicious food from a choice of many restaurants.

Offering more than just games the schedule includes a meeting with Santa, choir singing, stilt-walkers and concerts from famous Greek and Cypriot singers. CHRISTMAS Shopping in Nicosia


For those who wish to shop till they drop the Nicosia has to offer two shopping malls. For those who wish to enjoy Cyprus’s sunny weather they could visit Ledras and Makariou street for a relaxing coffee or to tick all the gifts of your Christmas list.

The Mall of Cyprus has to offer more than a shopping experience. December is kicked off with a Christmas workshops followed by choir concerts, charity bazaars and dance shows.
